Clinical Observation of Chest and Abdominal Injuries due to Trauma



Abstract
Clinical observation and its review were carried out on the chest and abdominal injuries at Seoul Red Cross Hospital from Jan, 1965 to Dec. 1966.
1) The total number of cases admitted due to trauma were 189 Among them
Chest injuries: 40 cases
Abdominal injuries: 31 cases.
Combined thoraco-abdominal injuries: 1 cases.
2) Contusion (34.9) & Traffic accident (35.9%) were most common type of wound and most common causes.
3) The ratio of male to female was 3.2: 1 in chest and abdominal injuries.
4) Non-penetrating wound was predominated over penetrating wound by a ratio 2.1:1.
5) 51 cases(71%) of the chest and abdominal traumas were admitted within 12hrs after injury.
6) 34 cases (50.7) of chest and abdominal traumas hospitalized for 2 weeks.
